Suzanne Buckingham Slade is the author of over 60 books for children. Her works include picture books, biographies, as well as titles on science and nature topics.

Ms. Slade holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Before beginning her writing career she worked in the engineering field. She lives near Chicago with her husband, Mike, and two children, Christina and Patrick. She spends most days doing what she loves – reading children’s books, dreaming up new story ideas, researching fascinating topics, and best of all – writing books! Ms. Slade enjoys visiting schools and sharing her love of books with hands-on presentations.

What's New?

Ms. Slade's picture book, Animals are Sleeping, illustrated by Gary Phillips, released March 2008.

Her next picture book, What's New at the Zoo?, comes out in July 2009.




Susan B. Anthony-Fighter for Freedom and Equality, illustrated by Craig Orback, was named to the 2008 Amelia Bloomer Project recommended reading list.
