Author Visits
I love to visit schools, libraries, and bookstores! Choose from the programs below or email me to discuss creating a special presentation for your group.

Authors Are Awesome!
Students will discover how authors turn fun facts into non-fiction books and use their creative ideas to create interesting fiction stories. They will also learn about the publishing process and how a manuscript becomes a book.

Science Rules
Ms. Slade will share fascinating science information from her science books as well as an exciting experiment or two! This program can be tailored to cover any of the science topics featured in her books.

Fascinating Figures in History
Ms. Slade will read one of her biographies and discuss the importance of this individual in American history.

This program is especially popular in February (Black History Month) and March (Women’s History Month).

Amazing Animals
Ms. Slade will present her picture book, Animals are Sleeping, in an interactive program that shares the unique ways different animals sleep.

Notes from Students and Teachers

“Ms. Slade’s visit was a huge success! She has a great rapport with students and tells them what they are interested in hearing about the writing process. Her presentation is enthusiastic, inspiring, and fun, as she takes them through the steps from idea to publication. In addition to being eager to pick up their pencils and write, students learn the virtues of hard work and persistence to achieve their goals.”

— Sue Elsea, 6th Grade Teacher
Highland Middle School

“Thank you for coming to our school. My class really related to your road to publishing story, and how it didn’t just happen on the first try. We really enjoyed your presentation, especially when we helped make your upcoming book come to life by participating in the chorus, ‘Shh, shh, the animals are sleeping.’ It was fun to guess the animals in your book! Thank you for reading one of your biographies. It was a real treat to hear an author read her own work!”

— Ms. Spinney, Prairie Crossing Charter School
Teacher, Multiage Grades 1 and 2

"Thank you so much for coming to our homeschool group!  Our children and parents enjoyed your presentation very much.  You did a great job speaking and made it very interesting for the kids, even with the range we have in the group.  They were all happy to have had you come and speak, and found the publishing process fascinating as well as the fun animal facts that you shared!  Your presentation was very well done."

— Angie Lopez, Compass Point Homeschool Group
Waukegan, IL

School Visits: Children benefit the most from my visits when I present to smaller groups (1 - 3 classrooms) at a time. In this setting, children can ask questions, interact with my props, and easily see my books.
